This home is very unique.  Located in Bramalea Woods with large lots THIS home has a yard big enough for a tennis court and still plenty of yard and patios.  You have to see it to believe it.  This home was commissioned by Chatelaine magazine’s editor who had the well known architects David Lipson and Ubbe Dashkin of LIPSON AND DASKIN, Toronto, Ontario.  This home was built with 25% steel and 75% wood construction.  This is a strong home as you will see once you enter the main foyer and living room.  Originally built in 1965 with a carport the garage and main floor family were added much later bringing the square footage to 2400.  

 

Exterior Front:

The flat roof of this home adds to the character and was done in 2008.  This roof will hold a snow load of forty pounds per square foot…pretty impressive right?  The rain water on the roof will keep the house cooler in the summer too.  The perennial gardens and front entrance have a concrete and tiled fence round them and the interlock walkway leads to the front door.  Yes this house is old and not like other homes on the market so you have to see it for yourself.  There is a double car garage with mud room so you can remove boots and coats before entering the house. 

 

Main Floor:

There is a large front door on a security system but you enter into a good size foyer with ceramic tiles.  There is a two piece washroom nearby that is handy.  The steel in this house can be seen in the foyer as you look up the stairs and into the living room.  We have pictures from the builder of the steel structure too so have a look.  The cathedral ceilings are 17 feet high in an open concept to the second level in this unique living room.  The stairs have wood and rod iron railings that give character to this room.  There are wood ceilings and there is a white (acorn type) of wood burning fireplace.  The owner has not used it because there is a gas fireplace in the family room that they use daily in the winter. 

The kitchen that is located at the back of the house overlooks the side and back yards.  Lots of storage in the three sets of cabinets and this home has TWO ovens  for those who like to entertain.  There is a fish aquarium in one set of cabinets but that area was a desk for all those important papers that you need quickly for kids school.  A regular stove in the sink area and another built in oven in the other set of cabinets.  The lighting is a bit dated with the Florida lights but if you want to renovate that you can.  There is a window over the sink that has a view of the tennis court and playground then there is a large walkout to a BBQ and interlocking patio and pergola.  At the far end of the kitchen is a door that goes directly into the stairs for the basement.  Imagine your teenagers could have their own space and they go right to the basement with their friends. The stove and refrigerator are black and staying with the home.  The ceramic floors in kitchen go from the main front door…no mess and easy to clean. 

A good size dining room has access from the foyer or kitchen and both have doors if you want some privacy.  This room has built in cabinets with glass shelves and mirrors at the back.  There is a bow window with a lovely ledge that would be perfect for house plants.  

One step down from the dining room is the main floor family room with gas fireplace, built in cabinets and lots of bookshelves.  You could make this room a cozy TV room or use it as a games room like the owners did.  This room has sliding glass doors to a patio and perennial raised gardens.  There is a floor to ceiling window on the other side that overlooks the front yard.  This room has another exit to a mud room and then to the double garage.

 

Second floor:

What a great view of the living room as you ascend the stairs to the second floor.  It has lots of natural light as there is a large picture window at the top of the stairs.  Parquet flooring that leads to the master bedroom.  This room is at the back of the house and has a full washroom and a walk-in closet.  So many unique features in this home and the indirect lighting in the ceiling of this bedroom is interesting.  So we mentioned that this home was special and that includes all the unique light fixtures and another interesting fact is the control panel for all the lights in the house from your bed.  Yup that’s what we said.  Imagine in 1965 that was pretty cool….now we have Alexa system to help us.

The other two bedrooms are at the front of the house but both a good size.  There is a full bathroom between the two rooms with a skylight for natural light.  Ok…we know not everyone wants bedrooms with painted paneling but it does give added insulation and keeps the noise down from the living room below.  You can do whatever renovations you want to this home as it is solid.   The present owners were going to change it too but never did.  You learn to love things sometimes.

 

Basement:

First of all there is a backyard door into part of the kitchen that could be blocked off to make the stairs to the basement a separate entrance.  You decide that one too.  Once downstairs you will see lots of closets for storage, laminate floors and two large rooms.  One is presently used as a bedroom and has a brick feature wall.  It could be a basement recreation room too.   Off the hallway is a two piece bathroom.  Beside this bathroom is an over sized closet in the hallway which is large enough to install a shower should you want a full piece washroom in the basement.  There is also plumbing in the basement for a kitchen area should you want to renovate it.  There is a sign to show you the location.

Comments:

This home can use some updating to the broadloom, built in cabinets in the family room, and some more modern fixtures but when this house was built it was the talk of Toronto and Montreal.  You can’t find many lots like this on the market at the time this was listed.  Easy access to Hwy 410 for easy commute north or south. 

 

City of Brampton:

The City has grown a lot since this house was built in 1965.  We have a larger population, better roads and all highways and routes both in and out of the City.  We have many parks that offer swimming, fishing, skating, skiing, sandy beaches, beach volley ball, outdoor and indoor skating, hockey in the many sports facilities and soccer fields galore.  We have parks that have outdoor exercise equipment and parks that are in protected areas.

Minutes from Brampton:

We are minutes from Norval, Georgetown and Glen Williams with quaint local stores, the Credit River that runs through them…and yes there are fish.  There is also tubing that is done so you can float down the river on the weekend.  You could visit the many hiking trails and sections of the Canada Trail in Caledon.  Want to check out Milton or Hilton Falls or Rattlesnake Point lookout….it is worth the trip.   Oh yes that reminds us there is always Acton to visit too.  About 40 minutes to Guelph or you can take the many highways to Toronto or go north…your choice.
